The Department of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering is the undergraduate teaching management institution of the Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydropower. At present, the undergraduate major is Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, which is one of the earliest majors of its kind in China and trains the most students. This major takes moral education as the fundamental task of talent cultivation, adheres to the educational concept of student-oriented, takes strengthening the construction of professional connotation as the foundation, takes the reconstruction of professional knowledge system as the focus, takes the deepening of mode reform as the thrust, and takes the improvement of system and mechanism as the guarantee to comprehensively improve the quality of undergraduate talent cultivation. In 2007, it was selected into the first batch of national characteristic majors, passed the professional certification of engineering education in 2011, and won the first batch of national first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites in 2019. There are two national experimental teaching demonstration centers in the specialty of water conservancy and hydropower engineering, offering many courses of school-enterprise cooperation, connecting with the construction of 11 practical teaching bases, and strengthening the cooperation between schools and enterprises and the integration of production and teaching; The national competition platform of National College Students' Innovative Water Conservancy Design Competition has been established, and the Jiangsu College Students' Innovative Water Design Competition and Jiangsu College Students' Innovative Mechanical Design Competition have been organized, so as to cultivate excellence and comprehensive talents facing the major strategic needs of the country and the international academic frontier. In recent years, teachers have won 1 second prize of national teaching achievement, 5 provincial teaching achievement awards, 2 new engineering and agricultural education reform projects, 8 national teaching masters, Jiangsu teaching masters, Baosteel excellent teachers awards and other honors, and 6 people have won the first prize and above in the national water conservancy young teachers' lecture competition. Three national first-class undergraduate courses, one national ideological and political demonstration course, two national excellent courses, two national excellent resource sharing courses, two national excellent online open courses and one national excellent video open class have been built. Students have made great achievements in national, provincial and ministerial science and technology competitions, such as National College Students' Innovative Design Competition for Water Conservancy, National College Students' Innovative Design Competition for Machinery, National College Students' Mathematical Modeling Competition, National College Students' Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition for Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction, National College Students' Advanced Mapping Technology and Product Information Modeling Competition, and Jiangsu College Students' Creative Design Competition for Water, and won a series of national, provincial and ministerial awards.
